I'm Interested, But I Have Some Questions

    FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What type of counseling do you practice?

I am trained in Family Systems which utilizes a number of approaches such as Structural and Strategic Family TherapyIntergenerational, and Emotional Focused  Couples Therapy to name a few. I also practice Medical Marriage and Family Therapy where I both make referrals to and take referrals from physicians in matters of depression and/or anxiety for example. How can I check your credentials?

You may go to the following to verify my legal and professional credentials.

    How long are your sessions?

I recommend 75 minutes for the first three sessions and 50 minutes for all meetings therefore. Of course the decision is up to you to decide how long each session will be.

Why do you recommend 75 minutes for the first three sessions?

    Two reasons: Firstly, the initial three sessions are critical to building the therapeutic relationship. In these sessions we together assess the viability of the counseling process. A couple of important question you will probably ask yourself, in addition to others are;

    • "Can this person help me sort things out?"
    • "Am I comfortable working with Bob?"

At the same time I will continously assess the question by asking myself "Can I truly be of benefit to this person or do I need to refer them to another therapist with more expertise in the area of their concern?"

Secondly, the first three sessions are critical to gathering information relevant to your concerns. One of the ways in which I do this is by collaborating on building a genogram. The genogram help's us track past and present generational and social influences in your life. These relationships have both positive and negative affects and contributed to becoming the person you are. Through the genogram process you will glean insight and a better understand these family of origin, extended family and other significant social connections. Clients tell me they have grown by simply understanding how family and social systems have impacted them.

Is there are set number of sessions I can expect?

I recommend a minimum of eight, but that decision is up to you?

    How much do you charge?

My standard rate per 50 minute session is $85.00.  If this amount is beyond your ability please tell me by the first session. I frequently work with other clients under a number of financial consideration. Payment is due at the end of each session.

What if I miss a session?

I have a 24 hour cancellation policy, excepting emergencies, in which you may cancel or reschedule. Otherwise you will be charged for the missed session.

    Do you take insurance?

I do not take insurance. I provide my clients with a DSM-IV-R diagnosis code and they may file directly for reinbursement from their insurance carrier.

What other ways of payment do you accept?

Personal check, cash and credit or debit cards.
